10.2.2 Firmware Update Procedure 

The following procedure is used to update the firmware on the CTI 2500 controller: 
  

1.  If the controller is installed in a base, disconnect power from the base and remove the 

controller from the base.   

2.  Set the firmware update switch to the Firmware Update position (see Section 2.3). 

3.  If you are using the RS-232 serial connection, you can set the serial port baud rate using 

the baud rate switches. CTI recommends using the highest available baud rate to 
minimize the download time. If you are using the USB port (highly recommended), the 
data rate is set automatically.  

4.  Install the unit into the base and apply power. The controller should display U01 on the 

multi-segment display, indicating it is waiting for you to transfer the firmware update file 
to the controller. 

5.  Connect the serial cable or USB cable to the PC and to the controller.  

6.  Start HyperTerminal, a standard Windows® accessory utility (or other data 

communications program).  The following steps deal specifically with HyperTerminal 
setup. 

a.  Select COM port under ‘File’/ ’Properties’. If the USB Driver has been installed, 
the assigned COM port will be shown in the selection menu. After selection, click on 
the OK button.  

 
b.  If you are using a serial port, press ‘Configure’ to set the communications 

parameters. The baud rate should be set to match the controller baud rate. Other 
parameters should be set as follows: Data Bits = 8, Parity = None:, Stop Bits = 1, 
Flow Control = None 

 

c.  Then press ‘OK’ to return to main window.
