CHAPTER 11
USER PROGRAM FLASH STORAGE
11.1 Overview
NOTE
Firmware Version 3.08 or greater is required for flash memory support.
The 2500 Series processor reserves a portion of the on-board flash memory for User Program
storage. Since the content of flash memory is retained when power is not present, this facility
provides another option besides battery backed RAM for storing the User Program.
The on-board flash memory operates in a similar manner to a flash drive. The User Program
does not execute in flash memory. It must be copied from flash memory to User Program RAM
before it can be executed.
The following User Program elements are stored in flash memory:
•
Relay Ladder Logic,
•
Special Function Programs and Subroutines,
•
Analog Loops,
•
Analog Alarms,
•
I/O Configuration,
•
Memory Configuration,
•
Profibus Configuration,
•
Scan Configuration,
•
Password data,
•
K Memory.
NOTE
To maintain compatibility with SIMATIC 505® controllers, the 2500 Series controller does not store the
contents of V memory in flash. Whenever the User Program is restored from flash, V memory is cleared.
If you have values that you wish to retain, you should store them in K memory, which is written to flash,
and then copy them to V memory on the first scan.
NOTE
The current values for the timer/counter and drum presets (TCP, DSP, and DCP) are not stored in flash.
When the User Program is restored from flash, the presets are reset to the values stored in the RLL
instructions.
