CHAPTER 8

 

SYSTEM RESTART OPTIONS 

8.1  Overview 

The 2500 Series controller provides several software initiated restart options, which can be 
accessed via your programming software. The restart options offer a means to place the 
controller in a known state without cycling power. A system restart is required to clear a 
controller fatal error condition.  
 

8.2  Restart Options 

The following system restart options are available: 

•

  Power-Up Restart 

•

  Partial Restart 

•

  Complete Restart 

The primary difference in the restart options is the state of the controller after the restart 
procedure has completed.  
 
The power-up restart procedure places the controller in the same state as cycling power to the 
PLC. The final state of the PLC depends on the state of the battery and the Program Source 
setting. This option is inhibited if the controller is in Run mode and the battery is bad or off.    
 
The complete and partial restart procedures differ as follows: 

•

  The complete restart places all loops in manual mode 

•

  The complete restart clears all analog outputs 

•

  The complete restart clears all retentive relays 

•

  The complete restart restores the timer/counter/drum presets from ladder
