Clutch Keys and Springs

T h e clutch hubs and sliding sleeves are a selected
assem bly and should be kept together as originally
assem bled, but the keys and tw o springs m ay be replaced
if worn or broken.
1. M ark hub and sleeve so that they can be m atched
upon reassembly.
2. Push the hub from the sliding sleeve, the keys and
the springs m ay be easily rem oved.
3. Place the three keys and tw o springs in position (one
on each side o f hub) so all three keys are engaged by both
springs (Fig. 7B -10A ). T he tanged end o f each synchronizer
spring should be installed in to different key cavities on
either side. Slide the sleeve on to the hub aligning the m arks
m ade before disassem bly.
A groove around the outside o f the synchronizer hub
identifies the end that m ust be opposite the fork slot in the
sleeve when assembled. This groove indicates the end o f the
hub with a greater recess depth.

Extension Oil Seal or Bushing
If bushing in rear o f extension requires replacement,
rem ove seal and use T ool J-5778 to drive bushing into
extension housing (Fig. 7 B -1 1 A ). U sin g the sam e tool, drive
new bushing in from the rear. Coat I.D . o f bushing and seal
w ith transm ission lubricant, then install new oil seal using
T ool J-21426 or J-5154 (Fig. 7B -12A ).
Clutch Bearing Retainer Oil Seal
I f the lip seal in the reatiner needs replacement; pry the
old seal out (Fig. 7B -13A ) and replace w ith a new seal using
Installer T ool J-23096, or sim ilar tool, until seal seats in its
bore (Fig. 7B -14A ).
