Removal of Rear Oil Seal and Case Extension

and Front Unit End Play Check

1. If necessary to replace, pry rear oil seal from case

extension (Fig. 7A -27C ).

2. R em ove case extension to case attaching bolts.

3. R em ove case extension to case gasket (Fig. 7A -28C ).

4. M ake front unit end play check as follow s (Fig. 7A -

29C):

a. R em ove one front pum p attaching bolt, and bolt

washer. (See Fig. 7A -29C for location).

b. Install a 3 /8 " -1 6 threaded slide ham m er bolt or J-

9539, into bolt hole.

c. M ount a dial indicator on rod and index indicator

to register w ith end o f turbine shaft.

d. Push on turbine shaft rearward.

e. Push output shaft forward.

f. Set dial indicator to Zero.

g. Pull turbine shaft forward.

Read resulting travel or end play.

Should be

.003 "-.024".

Selective w asher controlling this end play is the washer

located between pum p cover and forward clutch housing.

If m ore or less washer thickness is required to bring end play

w ithin specifications, select proper w asher from the chart

show n in Fig. 7A -30C . A n oil soaked w asher m ay tend to

discolor, so it w ill be necessary to m easure w asher for its

actual thickness.
