AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (200) 7A1-47

1. R em ove speedom eter driven gear from housing and

inspect gear for damage.

2. Inspect housing for dam age and "O" ring for dam age

or cuts.

3. If dam aged, rem ove and discard "O" ring.

1. Clean and inspect oil pan for damage.

2. Install new oil pan to case gasket on case.

3. Install oil pan and retaining bolts. Torque bolts to

16 N -m (12 lb. ft.).

Reassem bly

1. I f rem oved, install new "O" ring on housing.

2. Install speedom eter driven gear into housing.

3. Install speedom eter driven gear assem bly into case.

(Figure 7A 1-180).

4. Install speedom eter retainer and attaching bolt, align

slot in speedom eter driven gear housing with retainer.

Torque bolt to 12 N *m (8 lb. ft.).

5. Place transm ission in cradle or transm ission jack.

R em ove holding fixture, J-8763-02 from transmission.

6. Install the converter assem bly into the pump

assembly, m aking sure that the converter hub drive slots are

fully engaged with the pump drive gear tangs and the

converter

installed

fully

towards

the

rear

o f the

transmission.

NOTICE:

The converter w ill be properly installed if the

distance is 25.4m m (1.00") m inim um between the

engine m ounting face o f the case and the front face o f

the converter cover drive lugs.

7. R etain converter with J -2 1366.

BUSHING REPLACEMENT

PROCEDURE

D uring disassem bly and inspection o f the transm ission,

if a bushing is galled, scored or excessively worn, the

bushing should be replaced.

The replacem ent bushings used for field service are o f

high quality with close tolerances to fit, and do not require

boring or reaming after installation.
