using petrolatum to hold bearings in place. U se pinion pin

as guide (Fig. 7A -131C ).

7. Place a bronze and steel washer on each side o f

pinion so steel w asher is against pinion, hold them in place

with petrolatum .

8. Place pinion assembly in position in carrier and

install a pilot shaft through rear face o f assem bly to hold

parts in place.

9. D rive a new pinion pin into place w hile rotating

pinion from front, being sure that headed end is flush or

below face o f carrier (Fig. 7A -132C ).

10. Place a large punch in a bench vise to be used as

an anvil w hile staking opposite end o f pinion pin in three

places. B oth ends o f pinion pins m ust lie below face o f

carrier or interference m ay occur.

Output Shaft

1. Inspect bushing for wear or galling. If replacem ent

is necessary, proceed as follows:

a. Thread T ool J-21465-16 into bushing and using Slide

Ham m er J-2619, rem ove bushing.

b. U sin g T ool J -2 1465-1 w ith drive handle J-8092,

install bushing into place until tool bottom s.

2. Inspect bearing and thrust washer surfaces for

damage.

3. Inspect governor drive gear for rough or damaged

teeth.

4. Inspect splines for damage.

5. Inspect drive lugs for damage.

6. Inspect speedom eter drive gear.

Inspection of Rear Internal Gear

1. Inspect gear teeth for dam age or wear.

2. Inspect splines for damage.

3. Inspect gear for cracks.

Inspection of Sun Gear

1. Inspect gear teeth for dam age or wear.

2. Inspect splines for damage.

3. Be sure oil lubrication h ole is open.

Inspection of Sun Gear Shaft

1. Inspect shaft for cracks or splits.

2. Inspect splines for damage.

3. Inspect bushings for scoring or galling. If necessary

to replace, proceed as follows:
