Equipment Overview
Pneumatic System Description
Un-pressurized Fresh Air Intake Line
The ventilator runs off fresh air from the surrounding environment. Un-pressurized fresh air is drawn
in through a filter and pressurized into a pressure-monitored air tank using a blower; including
silencing elements. The fresh air intake line includes an electronically controlled valve which can be
closed off when needed. A check-valve is in line after the electronically controlled valve to prevent
back flow from the gas mixing line.
Pressurized O
2
Intake Line
The ventilator can be connected to a pressurized-regulated O
2
source in order to allow for control of
FiO
2
. The pressurized O
2
source is connected via a dedicated gas intake port. The O
2
is routed
through a check-valve to prevent backflow, an O
2
filter, a pressure sensor and finally a control valve
for FiO
2
regulation.
Gas Mixing
The fresh air intake line and pressurized O
2
intake line merge to a pressure-monitored mixing tank
which includes an O
2
sensor. One of the outlets from the gas mixing tank leads to a safety pressure
relief line and includes an electronically controlled valve which can be opened when needed. The
other outlet leads towards the inspiratory line valve.
Inspiratory Line
Control of inspiratory gas delivered to the patient is regulated via a control valve downstream of the
mixing chamber which is routed through a series of sensors including pressure, temperature and
flow. The air travels through a check-valve before reaching the inspiratory connection port for the
breathing circuit. An over pressurization protection line branches from the inspiratory line and
includes an electronically controlled valve which can be opened when needed. This over
pressurization line can also be used to allow spontaneous breathing in the event of power failure of
the system.
Inspiratory Air Filtration
A consumable antibacterial/antiviral filter is placed between the breathing circuit connection port and
inspiratory segment of the breathing circuit.
Expired Air Filtration
A consumable filter is placed between the breathing circuit connection port and expiratory segment
of the breathing circuit.
