ODES
The CAE Air1 ventilator supports three distinct modes of operation. These modes define the
breathing pressure, volume and degree of breathing assistance that a patient receives from the
ventilator. The modes are selectable through the graphical user interface on the touchscreen.
For all three modes, the ventilator ensures that the airway pressure never drops below the set PEEP
value. The concentration of oxygen in the air delivered to the patient is determined by the set FiO
2
value (when a pressurized oxygen source is connected to the ventilator).
The following table describes the three modes and identifies the parameters that can be set for each.
Note: Pi is defined as the inspiratory pressure relative to atmospheric pressure

(PC)
The ventilator delivers a breath to the patient based
on the set Respiratory Rate and the detection of an
inspiratory effort from the patient above the
pressure trigger threshold.
The ventilator increases the pressure delivered until
the set Pi value is met. The flow pattern decelerates
to maintain the Pi.
The pressure is maintained for a duration
determined by the set RR and I:E ratios.

Volume
Control
(VC)
The ventilator delivers a breath to the patient based
on the set Respiratory Rate and the detection of an
inspiratory effort from the patient above the
pressure trigger threshold.
The ventilator delivers a constant flow until the set
Tidal Volume is achieved.
As a safety mechanism the delivery of flow stops if
the Inspiratory Pressure (Pi) reaches the set Psafety
value.
