Automated Ventilator Responses
The following table identifies the automated responses in the event of certain alarm conditions.
IMPORTANT:
Medical personnel still need to respond to alarms with automated responses.
In addition to these automated alarm condition responses, the ventilator includes a Plimit parameter
threshold. The Plimit parameter acts as an additional safety measure, triggering Pressure Safe mode
as soon as its threshold value is exceeded. The Plimit threshold is defined according to the following
calculation:
<Ppeak High alarm level value> + 20 cmH
2
O = Plimit
The maximum threshold value for Plimit is 80 cmH
2
O. Any exceedence of this limit will result in
triggering of the Pressure Safe mode.
When Pressure Safe mode is triggered, it will persist for three seconds, then normal ventilation will
resume. When Fail Safe mode is triggered the ventilator must be replaced if the cause of Fail Safe
cannot be resolved and normal operation cannot be maintained. Refer to the
Troubleshooting
section
for additional information on Pressure Safe and Fail Safe modes.
Alarm
Priority
Automated Response
Ppeak High
High
The ventilator attempts to reduce the pressure using
the typical control mechanisms.
If not possible within two respiratory cycles, or 15 sec
-
onds, Pressure Safe mode is activated.
In Pressure Safe mode, the electronically controlled
pressure safety valves open to relieve the pressure.
After a period of three seconds, the pressure safety
valve will close and ventilation will resume.
PEEP High
High
After the PEEP High alarm is triggered, if sensed PEEP
remains greater than the PEEP High alarm threshold for
≥ 1 second continuously and Ppeak - PEEP < 5cmH
2
O,
then Pressure Safe will be triggered.
Ventilator Malfunction

Attempt to maintain the current ventilator settings. If
the current ventilator settings cannot be safely main

that prevent this) ventilator goes into Fail Safe mode.
