Control Protocol
A method of controlling the flow of data between computer devices,
either hardware (DTR/DSR) or software (XON/XOFF). Also called
“handshaking” or “transmission protocol.”
Default Settings
The values or settings which are preset on a computer system or
printer for power up operation. Most default settings may be changed
by the user through applications, utilities, printer commands, or the
front panel. See also Factory Default Settings.
Download Font
To load a new font into the memory of the printer’s controller.
DPI
Dots Per Inch. The unit of measure associated with the number of
dots per inch either on a printed page or on a monitor screen. It is
also the measurement used to describe printer resolution. See also
Resolution.
DTR/DSR
Data Terminal Ready/Data Signal Received. A hardware-controlled
protocol which controls the flow of data between printer and host
computer in serial communication. See also XON/XOFF.
Emulation
In this manual, emulation is another term for a facsimile of a printer
control language or mode such as the HP–GL 7475A or HP PCL 5
emulations in the Accel-a-Writer 812 printer. See also Mode.
Ethernet
An industry standard local area network developed by Xerox, Intel,
and Digital Equipment Corporation. The Accel-a-Writer 812 has an
optional Ethernet upgrade to adapt it for an Ethernet environment.
This upgrade supports EtherTalk and TCP/IP protocols
