Glossary
AppleTalk Network
In the context of this manual, multiple computers and/or peripheral
devices which are connected and adhere to the AppleTalk
communication protocol.
Application Software
Any software program, such as a desktop publishing program, word
processing program, graphics program, or any program that is
installed in your computer system.
Baud Rate
The speed, or data transfer rate (bits per second), at which data is
transmitted between computer devices using a serial interface.
Bitmapped Image
An image made up of small dots placed on a grid to form the outline
and then filled within the outline. Bitmapped images are often rough
and jagged around the edges because of having to work within a set
grid.
Centronics Parallel
Interface standard which sends one byte (8 bits) of data at a time
between computers and local peripheral devices. Parallel interfacing
is faster than serial interfacing.
Character Set
The complete set of characters that appear in a typeface family. See
also Typeface and Family.
Controller
An intelligent board located inside a printer; it is made up of
hardware and software which controls the printer’s engine.
