Discard criteria: Bends
Bends and other angular deformations in ropes are normally caused by some external influence.
CAUTION
For mild bends, carefully check for broken wires in the area of the bend.
Discard the rope if there are more than one broken wires.
Mild bends can often be removed by carefully bending the rope by hand to straighten out the bend.
CAUTION
Discard the rope if the maximum deviation “e”, is more than twice the rope
diameter (2 x d) over a section of rope whose length is equal to ten times the
rope diameter.
