4.3 Undercarriage
4.3.1 Frame
The truck frame is riveted, consisting of two pressed girders of variable sections, joined to-
gether with cross members and the front bumper.
Cabover trucks have two towing forks with king pins for towing a vehicle in the front frame
part. Conventional cab trucks have two rigid towing hooks for towing a vehicle in the front frame
part.
A drawbar coupling is installed in the back part of the frame for trailer towing.
To protect from running under the vehicle a rear under-run protection in the rear frame part
is installed.
Ural-44202-80M tractor unit has no rear under-run protection. Maintenance of the frame
consists of inspection of screw and riveted joints. It is necessary to check the geometry of the frame
and integrity of its components. If the rivets are loose, cut them and replace by new ones. It is al-
lowed to replace loose and cut rivets by bolts of 8.8 strength class with a nut and lock nut or friction
nut.
4.3.1.1 Drawbar Coupling
A drawbar coupling according to GOST R 41.55-2005 is installed, item class is C50-5 (see
the Installation and Operation Manual for “Drawbar coupling 21-202”).
On customer’s request it is possible to install “hook-eye” drawbar coupling (delivered as
spare parts for Ural trucks) for operation with trailers according to GOST 2349-75, standard size 3.
Basic dimensions of the towing hook must comply with GOST 2349-75 for standard size 3.
The drawbar coupling is installed on the unified mounting places in the special towing cross
member.
Maintenance of the towing device consists in its greasing and cleaning.
The guiding rods of the towing hook are lubricated through the oil cups during truck
maintenance. The hook in the housing support 2 (see figure 66) and in the bushing 6 must be easily
manually rotated.
Hook axial displacement in the housing is allowed for 0.5 mm maximum. To provide this,
fasten the nut 1 until backlash between the housing 2 and the locking ring 3 due to the elastic element
deformation (determined by free travel of the towing hook). Then unfasten the nut to prevent hook
axial displacement and fix it with a locking plate and a bolt. The locking plate 10 together with the
bolt 11 screwed in its hole as wells as the towing hook rod can move as far as backlashes in the joint.
When with a trailer put the lock pin 8.
It is forbidden to drive the truck with a trailer without locking plate 10 and with unfastened
lock pin 8 of the towing hook.
