Check bearing preload of the worm gear shaft when coupled with the worm. Torque
necessary for rotating the worm gear shaft in the bearings must be 3-6 Nm (0.3-0.6 kgfm). After
bearing adjustment check the correctness of worm-and-worm gear coupling by blueing by teeth
contact pattern. In properly adjusted worm-and-worm gear contact pattern of tooth work surface
without load should be in the centre, and should be at least 5 mm wide and 2/3 high.
Contact pattern is changed by moving the worm 30 in axial direction via gaskets. To
move contact pattern to the tooth fillet, remove gaskets 28 out of the cap 27 from the flange side;
to move contact pattern to the tooth face, add gaskets. Herein, change the number of gaskets 33
under cap 38 from the brake side accordingly, so that the total gasket thickness on both sides is
maintained. Contact pattern is moved along the tooth width with axial movement of the worm
gear in the same direction as the pattern is moved.
Globoidal worm-and-worm gear can function properly only if the coupling is correctly
adjusted.
Incorrect adjustment can cause worm-and-worm gear overheating and excess wear of
worm gear teeth.
4.9.3.1 Winch Drive.
Power from the transfer box through additional Power Takeoff to
the winch gearbox is transferred by three propeller shafts. To protect winch parts from overload a
safety pin 2 (see Figure 150) is installed on the first propeller shaft, it will be cut if the load is over
maximum allowable.
