This function is provided by the safe mechanism that assures safe driveability even when the solenoid valve, sensor or
its circuit fails. The following table shows the fail safe function for each fail condition of sensor, solenoid, TCM or its
circuit.

Shift solenoid valve-A or its
circuit
• Power supply to shift solenoid valve, TCC solenoid valve and
pressure control solenoid valve is cut.
• Gear position is fixed as shown below.
– When select lever position is
R: Reverse
D: 4th (O/D)
2: 3rd
L: 1st
• Lock-up function is inhibited to operate. (Except P1702)

TCC solenoid valve or its circuit
• Lock-up function is inhibited to operate.
• Up-shift to 4th gear is inhibited when A/T fluid temperature is

F) or higher.
• When TCC solenoid valve circuit open or shorted to power
circuit, and vehicle speed is less than 10 km/h (6 mile/h),
gear position is fixed in 1st gear for prevention of engine stall.

Transmission range sensor or
its circuit
• In case of circuit open, selected range is set as “D” range.
• In case of circuit short (In case that 2 or more sensor signals
are inputted), selected range is set in priority order shown
below.

Transmission fluid temperature
sensor or its circuit
Line pressure raising control at low fluid temperature is
inhibited.

Input shaft speed sensor or its
circuit
• Power supply to shift solenoid valve and TCC solenoid valve
is cut.
• Gear position is fixed as shown below.
– When select lever position is
R: Reverse
D: 4th (O/D)
2: 3rd
L: 1st
• Lock-up function is inhibited to operate.
• Reverse control operation, which inhibit reverse driving at “R”
range while vehicle runs forward more than 7 km/h (4 mile/h),
is inhibited.
