Testing and Troubleshooting

Acceptance Testing

Step 5. Purpose: Repeat the test for each definite-time and inverse-time

overcurrent element, for each winding.

Method:

Phase Overcurrent Elements

The SEL-387 has many phase overcurrent elements. They all operate based on
a comparison between the phase current directly applied to the winding inputs
and the phase overcurrent setting. The elements that have a P as the third
character of the element name operate when any one of the three phase
currents exceeds the phase current setting threshold. The elements that have
an A, B, or C as the third character in the element name operate based on that
phase current.

Test the instantaneous and time-delayed phase overcurrent elements by
applying current to the inputs and comparing relay operation to the phase
overcurrent settings. These tests were previously outlined in this section.
