4. MCPMs
MCPM Architecture
3 If the operator cancels a manual transition while the transition is in progress, the MCPM exe-
cutes a “cut” to the end of the transition and exits manual transition mode.
4 If the operator (or automation) requests a non-manual transition before the lever is moved, the
MCPM exits manual transition mode and performs the requested non-manual transition.
5 If the operator (or automation) requests a non-manual transition while the manual transition is
in progress, the MCPM executes a “cut” to the end of the transition and exits manual transition
mode. The MCPM then performs the requested non-manual transition.
Normal Manual Transition Behavior
In a normal manual transition (not preset black), the operator moves the lever from one extent (0%)
to the other extent (100%) to complete the transition. The transition can be at any rate and of any
duration, with or without reversals of direction.
These rules apply to normal manual transitions:
1 If the transition type is a “cut,” the transition occurs at the moment the level position reaches
100%. No changes occur while the lever position between 0% and 100%.
2 If the transition type is “V-fade,” when the lever position goes from 50% or greater to less than
50%, the program bus switches back to the previous source.
Preset Black Manual Transition Behavior
There are a set of “preset black” transitions can be executed only using a TLA. (In a preset black
transition, the operator must move the level from one extent to the other and then back (i.e., from
0% to 100% and then to 200%).
The 100% extent represents the transition matte value. (Preset “black” really means “matte.”)
When a preset black transition type is selected, and the operator or automation initiates a non-man-
ual transition, the MCPM perform an equivalent non-manual transition as defined in this table:
S
There are no preset black cross-fades.
S
Versions of MCPM software prior to 4.4.0 do not perform preset black transitions.
