MCPM Architecture
TLA (Transition Lever Arm)
If the operator presses the ‘Enable’ button of a TLA while an MCPM is performing a transition, the
MCPM will reject or ignore the ‘Enable’ request.
Transition Types
MCPM transitions are combinations of
cuts
and
fades
. A fade is a smooth transition over the transi-
tion period. A video “cut” is an instantaneous transition: from off to on, or on to off, at the next
frame. An audio cut is not instantaneous, but always fades down to silence in 3 frames and up from
silence to the new audio in 3 frames.
S
All audio transitions are smoothed (or S-shaped) to prevent induced artifacts, although the illus-
trations in this document do not show the smoothing.
During a fade, preset and program video sources mix and preset and program audio sources mix.
During a fade, video effects and audio overs fade on or off, although they overlay (mix with) the
upstream content.
During a cut, the video mixer is not involved, but preset and program audio sources mix. During a
cut, video effects turn on or off instantly, and audio effects turn on or off quickly (6 frames).
Before and after transitions, a mix is always 0% preset and 100% program.
The MCPM supports the following transition types:
1 Cut
The video mixer is not (directly) involved. The video switch is instant. The audio switch is
quick (6 frames).
Video effects turn on or off instantly. Audio overs switch quickly (6 frames).
S
The small circle(s) indicates where the MCPM stops using source A.
