5. MCEs
Structure
Each monitor
—
A and B
—
has independent gain and a “dim” function. When an operator presses
the monitor’s “dim” button at a control panel, the monitor level decreases (by as much as 108 dB).
The default attenuation is 20 dB.
It is possible to include program or preview output instead as ‘black’ on the video channel of each
of the monitor and meter outputs. That is a MasterConfig option.
Audio Summary
The audio section receives either discrete or embedded audio from the audio crosspoint. Dolby
audio is decoded if decoders are present. The MCE also accepts two other forms of audio input: aux
in and off air, which are simply extra sets of inputs.
The MCE has 16 internal audio channel processors that mix the incoming main audio and audio
“over” for both program and preset, and then mixes program and preset according to the transition
in effect. The MCE also mixes preview main and preview over audio.
Program and preset output appear on MCE-CORE backplane connectors. Audio is embedded in
video output.
Preview output appears on the MCE-PVW backplane.
Audio monitoring and metering outputs (embedded in a video signal) appear on MCE-CORE back-
plane connectors. Monitor and meter outputs present program, preset, aux, off-air, or preview
audio.
Preview Bus
The MCE’s preview bus, not present in other MCPMs, allows master control operators to preview
sources and video effects without interrupting program output or automation (which controls preset
and program output).
If your system does not involve automation, you can safely use the preset bus as a preview mecha-
nism. The preview bus is entirely independent of “on air” programming.
S
It is possible for the operator to copy a video effect setting from the preview bus to the preset
bus, or from the preset bus to the preview bus.
