6. Control Panels
Overview
Standard Control Panel Features
Master control panels offer many standard features. (In most cases, the features are those of the
MCPM or MCE under control.)
• Channel selection, including ‘no channel’ mode.
A channel button assigns the control panel to a specific MCPM or MCE. When you press a
channel selection button, certain MCPM or MCE parameters are downloaded to the panel. (It
takes about one second.) MCPM or MCE source names appear on the button legends and in the
menus.
An MCPM or MCE (i.e., a channel) can communicate with up to 4 panels concurrently. Any
combination of up to 4 control panels (hardware or software) may acquire the same channel at
the same time. If a fifth control panel attempts to connect to an MCPM that already has 4 con-
trol panels connected to it, the MCPM ignores the fifth control surface’s request for connection.

Each tally processor

in a master control network counts as one of the control panels.
The MCPM broadcasts it status to all panels connected to it. An operator will see status changes
initiated by another panel connected to the same MCPM.
• Ganged channels.
A “gang” button lets the operator couple two or more channels for “ganged” channel operation.
When channels are ganged, any action performed on a “main” channel is also performed on all
selected “follower” channels. (Follower channel buttons tally amber; the main channel button
tallies green.)
A control panel can control individual channels or “gang” channels together. For further flexi-
bility, channels can be preset individually, and
then
ganged, letting you simultaneously transi-
tion
different
inputs to each channel.
Because each MCPM (or MCE) has its own configuration, source assignments for each channel
can be different. Thus, the “main” channel and “follower” channels can perform similar or dif-
ferent operations
—
even if preset while in gang mode.
A panel can be configured with default channel. The default channel can be configured so that,
whenever it is selected, regardless of the method, it is automatically ganged with up to 3 other
channels. This feature is called “automatic gang mode.”
S
Automatic gang mode is not available for the legacy panels (CFCP, FFCP, and PC GUI).
• No channels.
A “no-channel” button completely disconnects a control panel from the master control network.
No MCPMs remain connected to the panel. A “no channel” button is typically used for diagnos-
tic purposes, so that the on-air signal is not affected.
• Salvos.
Control panels can trigger a router salvo each time a channel change occurs. A salvo is a stored
set of commands that execute in sequence. Refer to the
NV9000-SE Utilities User’s Guide
for
instructions on programming system salvos.
You can also execute salvos that are assigned to buttons.
