5 Cut/Fade
Video cuts to matte instantly and the matte then mixes to the new source over the transition
period. Audio quick-fades to silence and then fades to new source over the transition period.
Video effects cut on or off as required and then fade on or off as required. Audio overs quick-
fade on or off as required and then cut on or off as required.
There is also a set of “preset black” transitions can be executed only using a transition lever arm.

Manual Transition Behavior
One of the master control purchase options is a “transition lever arm” or TLA. With the TLA, an
operator can control a transition at will by moving a lever, perhaps reversing directions one or more
times. The operator may wait for a cue before beginning the transition. The transition period is
indefinite.
We use the term “manual transition” to refer to transitions performed with a TLA.
To initiate a manual transition, the operator presses the ‘Enable’ button on the TLA module. (The
button goes high-tally and the MCPM enters “manual transition” mode.) The operator moves the
lever arm to execute the transition. When a manual transition is complete, the button goes low-tally
and the operator may initiate a new transition.
During a manual transition, the operator can press the ‘Enable’ button again to cancel the transition.
There are two forms of manual transition: “preset black” and normal. In a normal transition, the
operator moves the lever from one extent to the other. In a “preset black” transition, the operator
moves the lever from one extent to the other
and then back to the first extent
. A manual transition,
preset black or normal, can start from either extent.
In a normal manual transition, we say the lever moves from 0% (the start) to 100% (the end).
In a “preset black” transition, we say the lever moves from 0% (the start) to 100% (the midpoint)
and then to 200% (the end). At the midpoint, the program output displays the predefined matte
(which is where the term “preset black” originates). A preset black transition always includes a
matte point, whereas normal transitions do not necessarily include a matte point.
The following are some of the rules that apply to all manual transitions:
1 If the operator moves the lever back to the start position, the MCPM exits manual transition
mode. The program bus and preset bus will remain as they were before the transition was
started. (This cannot occur, in a preset black transition, after the lever reaches the midpoint.)
2 If the operator cancels a manual transition before moving the lever, the MCPM exits manual
transition mode and makes no changes to the program bus.
