5. MCEs
Structure
Under breakaway, the aux audio output comes from the
audio
source.
S
This option does not appear unless you have checked ‘Enable Main Disembedders’ in the
general settings of MasterConfig.
• Preset Audio
The aux output (A or B, whichever one you choose) carries the video and audio of the main
source(s) chosen on the control panel’s preset bus.
Under breakaway, the aux audio output comes from the
audio
source.
S
This option does not appear unless you have checked ‘Enable Main Disembedders’ in the
general settings of MasterConfig.
The aux outputs cannot replicate program audio or preset audio unless it is embedded. The aux out-
puts pass whatever audio is embedded
—
all 16 channels, Dolby-encoded or not.
Aux Button Row
The CECP, CECP M1, CECP GUI, Aux/Preview GUI, and FECP (control panels) provide what is
labeled an “Aux Bus” but is actually an
aux button row
. This button row functions only in conjunc-
tion with an MCE. It is inoperative for other MCPMs.
The aux button row include a set of main source buttons and a number of “aux delegate” buttons.
The delegate buttons select different functions for the aux bus. These are the delegate functions:
Aux A Bus
Preset Squeeze Background
Preview Squeeze Background
Aux B Bus
Preset Squeeze Image 2
Preview Squeeze Image 2
When a panel operator presses “Aux A Bus,” the main source selected on the aux bus is sent to
whichever of the aux outputs in the MCE corresponds to the aux A bus. If neither aux output was
configured for aux bus A, the aux output is unaffected.
The same is true for the “Aux B Bus” panel button.
The other 4 delegate types
—
conveniences for the panel operator, and not relevant to the MCE
—
allow panel operators to select main sources as squeeze images, either background or image 2.
These functions are discussed in the
CECP Operator’s Guide
, the
FECP Operator ’s Guide
, the
GUI Operator ’s Guide
, and in the
MCS Panel Configuration Editor User ’s Guide
.
S
Depending on configurations, the aux button row of the CECP, CECP M1, CECP GUI, or
FECP control panels
might or might not
correspond to the aux bus of the MCE.
S
It is only when a panel is controlling an MCE that the aux button row is active.
Machine Control and Pre-Roll
MCEs can perform machine control and pre-roll operations. Control panels correspondingly might
have several machine control and pre-roll buttons. Machine control and pre-roll functions are car-
ried out by a DC21 Device Controller on the master control network. The device controller can
control up to 4 VTRs (or similar devices) with a serial protocol (Sony, Odetics, or VDCP) and has
the capability of controlling up to 16 other devices with start and stop pulses.
See
Machine Control and Pre-Roll
on page 166.
