Access Policies
This chapter describes access policies, and how they are created and
implemented on the Intel
®
NetStructure
™
480T Routing Switch.
Overview of Access Policies
Access policies
are a generalized category of features that impact
forwarding and route forwarding decisions. Access policies are used
primarily for security and quality of service (QoS) purposes.
There are two categories of access policies:
•
Access lists
•
Routing access policies
Access Lists
Access lists are used to perform packet filtering and forwarding decisions
on incoming traffic based on a criteria that involves layer 3 IP or layer 4
socket source or destination information. Each packet arriving on an
ingress port is compared to the access list in sequential order, and is either
forwarded to a specified QoS profile or dropped. Using access lists has no
impact on switch performance.
