Forwarding Database (FDB)
113
How FDB Entries Get Added
Entries are added into the FDB in the following two ways:
•
The switch can learn entries. The system updates its FDB with the
source MAC address from a packet, the VLAN, and the port
identifier on which the source packet is received.
•
You can enter and update entries using a MIB browser, an SNMP
Network Manager, or the command-line interface (CLI).
Associating a QoS Profile with an FDB Entry
You can associate a QoS profile with a MAC address (and VLAN)
of a device that will be dynamically learned. The FDB treats the
entry like a dynamic entry (it is learned, it can be aged out of the
database, and so on). The switch applies the QoS profile as soon as
the FDB entry is learned.
Configuring FDB Entries
To configure entries in the FDB, use the commands listed in
Table 26.
Table 26:
FDB Configuration Commands
Command
Description
config fdb agingtime <number>
Configures the FDB aging time. The range is 15
through 1,000,000 seconds. The default value is
300 seconds. A value of 0 indicates that the entry
is never aged out.
