Chapter 16: Interactive Differential Calculus Application

(2) On the dialog box that appears, input 2
x
2
− 4 and then tap [OK].
• This will graph the expression you input.
6. Perform regression to check if the function you predicted is correct.
Since we predicted a quadratic function curve here, we will perform quadratic regression.
Tap Calc - Regression - Quadratic Reg or
f
.
• This draws the graph based on the calculation results.
Tip:
There are four types of regression available on the Calc - Regression menu. Decide on the type of regression
calculation you want to perform based on the straight lines and curves expected from the shape of the plots.
Note
• In step 4 of the above procedure, be sure to plot at least four points for the (
x
,
slope
) coordinates. When there
are fewer than four plots, attempting to perform the steps from step 5 onward will cause the message “Plot at
least 4 points.” to appear to let you know you cannot go any further until you plot more points.
• The predicted expression you input in step 5 and the regression expression obtained in step 6 automatically
overwrite the applicable fields on the [Function] tab.
• For details about the regression calculation result dialog box that appears in step 6-(2) above, see the table in
step 3 of the procedure under “To view regression calculation results” (page 143).
