8.6 ENGINE SERVICE AND COMPONENTS
8.6.1 Engine RPM Setup
NOTE
The Engine Speeds can ONLY be checked if
the Machine is in
Defrost
a. Control
1) Start the unit in Cool Mode.
NOTE
ALL Remote Compartments MUST be Shut Off
and only Compartment 1 enabled.
2) Check DDT Temp in Data Menu (See Section 3.14),
DTT must be less than 39.9
°
F (4.4
°
C)
3) Initiate Manual Defrost (See Section 3.10)
4) Check Total Current on each phase at AC1 & AC2
output of generator
5) Monitor Current & Adjust RPM with High Speed Stop
Screw on the Engine to obtain 1850 RPM for a cur-
rent range of 10 to 11.5A
6) Force the Machine into Low Speed
NOTE
NEVER disconnect the Speed Control Solenoid
(SCS)
Select Functional Change menu (See Section
3.16)
Select the Parameter “Silent Mode” -- “Yes”
7) Check Total Current on each phase at AC1 & AC2
8) Monitor Current & Adjust RPM with High Speed Stop
Screw on the Engine to obtain 1450 RPM for a cur-
rent range of 8.5 to 8.9A
8.6.2 Cooling System
Air flows through the condenser/radiator. The
condenser/radiator must be internally and externally
clean for adequate cooling. The water pump V-belt must
be adjusted periodically to provide maximum air flow.
(Refer to Section 8.6.9)
CAUTION
Use only ethylene glycol anti-freeze (with
inhibitors) in system as glycol by itself will
damage the cooling system. Always add
pre-mixed 50/50 anti-freeze and water to ra-
diator/engine. Never exceed more than a
60% concentration of anti-freeze. Use a low
silicate anti-freeze meeting GM specifica-
tions GM 6038M for standard life coolant or
use Texaco Havoline extended life coolant
or any other extended life coolant which is
Dexcool approved and has 5/150 (5
years/150,000 miles) on the label.
Do the following to service the cooling sys-
tem:
a. Remove all foreign material from the condenser/ra-
diator coil. Compressed air or water may be used as a
cleaning agent. It may be necessary to use warm wa-
ter mixed with any good commercial dishwasher de-
tergent. Rinse coil with fresh water if a detergent is
used.
NOTE
Draining the coolant from the engine petcock
will leave approximately 1 quart (.9 liters) of
coolant in the block.
b. Drain coolant completely by removing lower radiator
hose and radiator cap.
c. Install hose and fill system with clean, untreated wa-
ter to which 3 -- 5% of an alkaline based radiator
cleaner is added -- 6 oz. (151 grams) to 1 gallon (3.78
liters) of water.
d. Run engine 6 to 12 hours and drain system while
warm. Rinse system three times after it has cooled
down. Refill system with water.
e. Run engine to operating temperature. Drain system
again and fill with 50/50 water/anti-freeze mixture.
(see Caution Note and Refer to Section 2.9)
NEVER POUR COLD WATER INTO A HOT EN-
GINE, however hot water can always be added to a
cold engine.
