Sending and Receiving Faxes
Chapter 3
❏
If the call is a telephone call, the MultiPASS C20 rings to alert you to
pick up the handset. If you do not pick up the handset within 22
seconds, the MultiPASS C20 stops ringing, checks again to make
sure the call is not from a fax machine, then hangs up. (You can use
the MultiPASS Desktop Manager to change the 22 seconds,
increasing the amount of time the MultiPASS C20 rings before it
hangs up.)

Not all fax machines are capable of sending a FAX TONE. For those
cases you can set your MultiPASS C20 to switch to receive mode
automatically and start receiving the document. If no document
comes in, it disconnects after approximately 35 seconds. See the
MultiPASS Desktop Manager for Windows
®
User’s Guide
for
instructions on setting this switch.
❏
If the MultiPASS C20 runs out of paper or if its BJ cartridge runs out
of ink while the unit is receiving a fax, it receives the remainder of
the fax into its memory.
❏
To stop receiving a fax before it is complete, press the (
STOP
)
button.
❏
If the ALARM lamp flashes, make sure the error is corrected and
then press the (
STOP
) button. See “The ALARM lamp comes
on...” under “Printing Problems” on page 6-9.
