Commissioning
This chapter describes the installation and preparation work to be performed before
using the REA MLV-2D.
4.1
Operation and transportation
Humidity, cold and heat as well as mechanical shocks and falls can cause damage –
possibly irreparable – to the measuring chamber cover and other mechanical or
electronic parts. If the device has been damaged in this way and continues to provide
measurement results, there is a serious risk of these results being incorrect or
deviating too far from the correct values.
Following transportation, please consult sections 4.2and 4.3.
The REA MLV-2D is delivered in a case or in a cardboard box with appropriate foam
padding. This packaging should be retained for possible later transportation. If the
REA MLV-2D is shipped without the original packaging, it should be packaged with
enough padding to ensure that the device cannot move about in the shipping box.
4.2
Setup
The REA MLV-2D should be set up on a flat-topped table. Measurements shall not be
affected by ambient light sources. Accordingly, diffuse lighting is required to illuminate
the workplace. Direct light from sunlight or spotlights is forbidden. The film on the
display serves to protect the surface and can be removed. The REA MLV-2D is
powered by an external power supply. The power supply is connected as described in
section 4.6.
The REA MLV-2D has been designed for normal office, lab and manufacturing
environments. Operation in environments requiring explosion protection (e.g.) or
similar is unsupported and the operator takes sole responsibility for such use.
4.3
Temperature changes
If the REA MLV-2D is subjected to temperature changes (e.g. when it is set up in
heated rooms after transportation in winter), its optical parts may fog up. In such
cases, about 15 minutes waiting time is required to warm up before using the REA
MLV-2D.
4.4
Power supply
Power is supplied to the MLV-2D device via its network cable. This type of power
supply is called
P

o
ver
E
thernet (
PoE
). The power adapter provided only supplies
electrical power to a connected device if this device is also designed to operate by
using this kind of supply voltage. Nevertheless it is recommended never to connect
non-PoE-enabled network devices to the power adapters OUT port. A second cable or
additional, separate power adapter is not required. Apart from their improved
flexibility, the network cables supplied are standard off-the-shelf parts
(CaT 5e or better)
.
