IP address (not recommended but mandatory if a fixed address is not assigned via
DHCP). The REA MLV-2D sister model, REA VeriCube, uses GigE Vision. This was
primarily developed for a direct connection between the computer and the camera.
Running GigE Vision over a gateway is not supported and will not work properly.
4.6.8
Fixed IP addresses
Some environments either advocate or require the assignment of fixed IP addresses.
This typically involves manual configuration of both the PC and the verifier. This kind
of configuration limits application flexibility. The use of a DHCP server is the
recommended configuration. The DHCP server manages a list of devices identified by
their MAC addresses. The administrator can configure the server to assign always the
same (fixed) IP address to a specific machine.
4.6.9
DHCP
DHCP mode: the PC and REA MLV-2D are on the company network and request their
network settings from the DHCP server. This mode is active in the factory settings.
4.6.10
Zero-configuration networking
Zero-configuration networking is also described as "Zeroconf mode". The PC and REA
MLV-2D use a direct connection. Since no server can be reached (owing to the direct,
point-to-point connection), zero-configuration networking is used automatically as the
system setting (automatic fall back). This mode is active in the factory settings by
activating automatic network configuration. The PC's network adapter reports the
status "Limited or no connectivity".
The machine enters Zeroconf mode automatically after a wait time of about 1–2
minutes.
During the wait time, the PC displays a network icon with a moving yellow
point on the status bar (differs slightly according to the Windows version).
In this state, no connection is possible.
Once automatic configuration is complete, the network icon is displayed with
a yellow exclamation mark. Communication is now possible. The exact
representation will also differ depending on the version of Windows installed.
