Connecting up
The REA MLV-2D is supplied with two identical network cables.
Figure: Network cables
The REA MLV-2D is connected to the PoE power adapter using one of the two Ethernet
cables. The socket labelled "P+D/OUT" on the power adapter is used to connect it to
the device. The device will not be powered if connected to the other "Data/In" socket.
The second network cable is used to connect the PoE power adapter's "Data/In"
socket to the computer (directly or indirectly).
The left-hand picture illustrates the connection of the
Data/In socket to the network system (represented here
by the Ethernet switch).
For connecting to mains power, the power adapter has a
socket for an IEC cord plug. This mains cable is supplied
to meet the national standard.
The socket type is C14 (IEC 60320). The plug type is
C13.

Supplying power via PoE is characterised by the power adapter first checking whether
or not a connected device is designed for use with a PoE power supply. While this is
being checked, the device cannot yet be turned on. With the REA MLV-2D, this delay
will typically be barely noticeable.
