Malfunctions in the tire pressure monitoring
system
Each tire, including the spare (if provided), should be
checked monthly when cold and inflated to the infla-
tion pressure recommended by the vehicle manufac-
turer on the vehicle placard or tire inflation pressure
label. (If your vehicle has tires of a different size than
the size indicated on the vehicle placard or tire infla-
tion pressure label, you should determine the proper
tire inflation pressure for those tires.)
For information on the tire inflation pressure label:
f
Please see chapter „Tires and Wheels“ on
page 212.
As an added safety feature, your vehicle has been
equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System
(TPMS) that causes a tire pressure warning light to
come on when one or more of your tires is signifi-
cantly under-inflated.
Accordingly, when the tire pressure warning light
comes on, you should stop, check your tires as soon
as possible, and inflate them to the proper pressure.
Driving on a significantly under-inflated tire causes
the tire to overheat and can lead to tire failure.
Under-inflation also reduces fuel efficiency and tire
tread life, and may affect the vehicle’s handling and
stopping ability.
Please note that the TPMS is not a substitute for
proper tire maintenance, and it is the driver's respon-
sibility to maintain correct tire pressure, even if
under-inflation has not reached the level to activate
the TPMS tire pressure warning light.
The display as well as the settings for the Tire
Pressure Monitoring System take place on the multi-
function display.
However, the tires still have to be inflated manually.
f
Please see chapter „Tire pressure“ on page 286.
The TPMS offers the following functions:
– Permanent monitoring of tire pressure and tire
temperature.
– Displays the actual tire pressure (actual pressure)
during the trip.
– Tire pressure warnings in two stages (yellow and
red warning).
– Vehicle stationary: Displays the deviation from
the set pressure and the tire type, load and
comfort pressure selection.
Retrieving the tire pressure
e
If a red tire pressure warning appears on the
multifunction display: Stop immediately in a
suitable place and check the tires for damage. If
necessary, repair damage using tire sealing
compound.
f
Please see chapter „Flat Tire“ on page 100.
e
Do not
continue to drive with defective tires.
Have faulty tires replaced immediately
Visit an authorized Porsche dealer, as they have
trained technicians and the necessary parts and
tools.
e
Never drive with tires that repeatedly lose
pressure in a short space of time. If in doubt, have
the tire checked by an authorized Porsche dealer.
Porsche recommends an authorized Porsche
dealer, as they have trained technicians and the
necessary parts and tools.
WARNING
Incorrect Tire Pressure
WARNING
Attention to TPMS
Malfunction Indicator
TPMS malfunctions occur in the following cases:
– Fault in the tire pressure monitoring system.
– Missing wheel sensors for the tire pressure
monitoring system.
– In the learning phase after the tire settings have
been updated.
– After the wheels have been changed without
updating the tire settings.
– If the tire temperatures are too high.
f
Please see chapter „Warning and Information
Messages“ on page 253.
f
Please see chapter „Warning lights“ on page 115.
e
If the malfunction persists: Visit an authorized
Porsche dealer, as they have trained technicians
and the necessary parts and tools.
Information
After the ignition is switched on, the tire pressures
are only taught-in and displayed after a speed of
approx. 15 mph (25 km/h) has been reached. Dashes
(-.-) will appear instead of the tire pressures.
The tire pressures are no longer displayed when the
ignition is switched off or on again, or the vehicle has
been stationary for more than around 10 minutes.
If the tire is inflated by at least 1.4 psi/0.1 bar/
10 kPa, the corresponding tire pressure is updated
and displayed.
