Before leaving the vehicle, always activate the
electric parking brake and place the selector lever
in position
P .

Reading the selector lever position and
engaged gear display
When the engine is running, the selector lever
position and the engaged gear are displayed.
If the selector lever is between two positions, the
relevant selector lever position flashes and a warning
appears on the multifunction display.
Action required:
e
Operate the footbrake and engage the selector
lever correctly.
If the selector lever is accidentally moved to a drive
position from
P or N without the brake being applied
(due to a malfunction or incorrect operation), this
drive position flashes and no power transmission is
applied.
e
To drive off, apply the brake and move the
selector lever from
P or N to the desired drive
position again.
Selector lever setting R or D flashes in the instru-
ment panel
No power transmission takes place.
Effects:
– The selector lever was engaged without applying
the footbrake.
– The selector lever was set to R above the permis-
sible speed limit.
– The driver’s door was open while the car was
being parked or maneuvered.
Due to legal requirements, the power transmis-
sion between the engine and transmission is
interrupted after 2 seconds if there is no pedal
movement (brake or accelerator pedal).
Action required:
e
Apply the footbrake and select the desired
selector lever position again from
P or N .
Selector lever positions
P – Parking lock
e
Engage parking lock only when the vehicle is
stationary.
If selector lever position
P is flashing, the parking
lock is not engaged. The vehicle can roll away.
Select selector lever position
P again from R .
The vehicle key can only be removed in selector lever
position
P .
R – Reverse gear
e
Only engage reverse gear when the vehicle is
stationary and the brake is applied.
N – Neutral
Selector lever position N must be selected when the
vehicle is being towed or in car washes, for example.
e
Only use selector lever position N when idling.
e
Only select the desired position for driving off
(
D , M or R ) when the engine is idling and the brake
pedal is actuated.
D – Automatic selection mode
Basic setting
The PDK has a sports shift strategy as the default
setting.
Gear changes are always fast.
e
Select selector lever position D for “normal” drive
mode.
The gears are automatically selected according to
the accelerator pedal position and vehicle speed.
Shifting sequences and gear-changing points are
adapted or adjusted to the driving style.
