In order to ensure problem-free communication with
the voice control function, the following points
should be noted:
– Speak clearly and at a normal volume. Speak
louder when traveling at higher speeds.
– Speak louder when travelling at a higher speed.
– Stress voice commands evenly, without long
pauses in your speech.
– Do not speak when the voice control function is
making an announcement.
– Reduce disruptive sounds caused by closing
doors, windows.
– Only operate the voice control as the driver. This
is because the hands-free microphone is directed
toward the driver’s side.
Adjusting voice control
– Short dialog : When this function is activated, the
voice output uses short announcement texts.
– Help texts : When this function is activated,
commands that can be spoken are displayed.
Calling up help
Open visual input help
1. Press button on the control lever (Fig. 220).
A list with sample commands is displayed in the
PCM.
2. Select the icon in the footer of the PCM.
3. To display sample commands in each main menu,
select the icon or sample command of the
relevant main menu in the PCM.

One input help per main menu is output.
Saying voice commands
In principle, there are three types of voice commands
that can be input:
– Global voice commands
– Generally-valid voice commands
– Dialog-specific voice commands
The voice commands shown are a selection of all the
commands available. Where available, the system
also recognizes synonyms. For example, instead of
saying
Call John Doe you can also say Phone John
Doe or Dial John Doe .

Speaking global voice commands
All available voice commands that call up a specific
function are global voice commands. Global voice
commands can always be used, regardless of the
main menu selected. This makes it possible to call up
a function directly, without first having to switch to
the relevant main menu. If, for example, the
NAV
main menu is active and the voice command Station
e.g. Radio station XY is said, the station mentioned is
called up.

If the Help texts function is deactivated, the visual
input assistant can be displayed via the icon in
the title bar.
