Playback
Introduction
Most of the featu r es desc r ibed in this
cha p te r make use of on-sc r een dis p lays.
Navigate these using the cu r so r buttons and
ENTER
. To go back one level f r om any
sc r een, use the
RETURN
button.
Remembe r also that the button guide at the
bottom of eve r y sc r een shows which buttons
do what.
Many of the functions cove r ed in this
cha p te r a pp ly to the HDD, DVD discs, Video
CDs, Su p e r VCDs, WMA/MP3/
MPEG-4 AAC

/DivX discs and CDs, although
the exact o p e r ation of some va r ies slightly
with the kind of disc loaded.
• Many functions a r e not available when a
Video CD is p laying in PBC mode. Sta r t

fo r non-PBC p layback (see

Basic playback
This section shows you how to use you r
r eco r de r fo r p layback of discs (DVD, CD,
etc.), and fo r p layback of video f r om the
HDD.
Important
• Th r oughout this manual, the te r m ‘DVD’
means any kind of p layable o r r eco r dable
DVD. If a function is s p ecific to a
p a r ticula r kind of DVD disc, it is
s p ecified.
• Some DVD-Video, DVD+R and
DVD+RW discs don’t allow ce r tain
p layback cont r ols to o p e r ate at ce r tain
p oints in the disc. This is not a
malfunction.
1 Select the HDD or DVD for
playback.
• If p laying video f r om the HDD, ski p to
ste p 3 below.
2 Load a disc.
Load a disc with the label side facing u p ,
using the disc t r ay guide to align the disc (if
you’ r e loading a double-sided DVD-Video
disc, load it with the side you want to p lay
face down).
• If you want to p lay a DTS Audio CD,
p lease fi r st r ead the note on p age 54.
3 Start playback.
• If you’ r e p laying a DVD-Video o r Video
CD, a disc menu may a pp ea r when you
sta r t p layback. Use the
///
buttons, numbe r buttons, and ENTER to
navigate DVD disc menus, and the
numbe
r buttons and ENTER fo r Video
CD menus.
• When p laying video f r om the HDD,
p layback will automatically sto p afte r the
end of a title is r eached.
• The r e may be a slight p ause when
p layback switches f r om the fi r st to the
second laye r of a dual-laye r disc.
• See the following sections fo r mo r e
details on p laying s p ecific kinds of discs.
4 Press to stop playback.
5 When you’ve finished using the
recorder, eject the disc and switch the
recorder back into standby.

1 The MPEG-4 AAC files can be p layed o r co p ied only with the DVR-660H-K.
