Changing cable channels
When a cable box is connected, you can use
the
r emote to change cable channels (u p to
999).
If your cable box is connected to the RF
antenna input on this recorder:
• Use or Change the
cable channel.
In this case, you can’t change the channel of
the built-in tune
r .
If your cable box is connected to a set of AV
inputs:
1 Select the cable box input.
2 Use or to change the
cable channel.
Changing audio channels
Some TV pr og r ammes a r e b r oadcast with
both a main and a Second Audio
P
r og r amme (SAP). You can change the TV
audio using the AUDIO button.
• Press to change the audio type.
The cu rr ent audio channel is dis p layed on-
sc r een.
• If
SAP
is selected, but the r e is no SAP
channel being b r oadcast, you will still
hea r the main audio channel.
• If the sound is p oo r quality when set to
Stereo
, you can often im pr ove it by
changing to
Mono
.

• When r eco r ding to the HDD with HDD
Reco r ding Fo r mat set to Video Mode On,
to DVD in Video mode, o r on the
LPCM
setting, only one channel of a dual mono
b
r oadcast is r eco r ded. In this case,
decide which language you want to
r eco r d befo r e r eco r ding by setting the
Dual Mono Reco r ding setting (see
Dual
Mono Recording on p age 114).
Setting the picture quality/
recording time
Befo r e sta r ting a r eco r ding, you will usually
want to set the p ictu r e quality/ r eco r ding
time. The r e a r e six standa r d settings
available, which allow you to choose a
balance between
p ictu r e quality and
r eco r ding time.
When Manual Reco r ding is set to On (see
Manual Recording
on p age 117), a fu r the r
o p tion will be available (
MN1
to
MN32
,
LPCM
, o r
XP+
(a su p e r -high quality HDD
r eco r ding mode that featu r es a t r ansfe r r ate
of a r ound 15 Mb p s) de p ending on what you
set).
When r eco r ding to DVD, MN32 is the
highest r eco r ding quality available. If you
select
XP+
, the r eco r ding mode will
automatically r eve r t to
MN32
.
When r eco r ding to DVD+R/+RW,
SLP
is the
longest r eco r ding time available. If you
select
SEP
o r
MN1
to
MN3
, the r eco r ding
mode will automatically r eve r t to SLP .
• Press repeatedly to select the
recording quality.
•
XP
– High quality setting, gives about
one hou r of r eco r ding time on a DVD
disc.
• SP (Standa r d Play) – Default quality,
used fo r most a pp lications, gives about
two hou r s of r eco r ding time on a DVD.
