Shipping Or Moving

This chapter contains instructions on how to take a fully operational Cypher AFM, partially dis-
assemble it, and move it to another location.

When shipping or moving all of the Cypher AFM, follow this chapter from start to finish. When ship-
ping only one component, jump straight to the section which focuses on that component. Some
components require more work than others. For instance, shipping the scanner is relatively easy,
since its removal does not depend on many other parts. Something like the view system, however,
will require significant disassembly of the whole AFM.

31.1 A note on unpacking

If you have just received your new AFM, do not unpack it yourself. It must be installed by a cer-

tified technician. Your warranty may be voided if you unpack a new instrument yourself.

If you have packed your AFM or some part thereof for repair and have to unpack it upon return,
please use this guide as a reminder.

31.2 Moving: what does it mean?

Move a few inches

Grip the AFM by its base and slide it around on your workbench by a few inches. DO NOT LIFT.

If you have to lift the AFM in order to move it, you must take it apart. Read this chapter, or you
may be looking at costly repairs and weeks of downtime.

Call or otherwise contact Asylum Research and talk to us before moving anything. Chances are

that with a few phone calls and the help of this chapter you can do the job yourself. Not calling us
will likely result in instrument damage, costly repairs and downtime, and the voiding of your war-
ranty.

Move to another desk or nearby room

Any action that requires lifting the AFM requires significant care and some disassembly. Follow the
relevant sections of this chapter. Even if you are moving to another room, we recommend placing
the components in their shipping cartons to prevent damage from jostling by carts and dollies or
accidental dropping.

Moving to another building or shipping to another location

Follow this chapter in its entirety.
