Quick Layer
Overview
This dialog box is reached by pressing the Quick Layer
button on the COMBINATION > Home page.
A “layer” is when playing a single note causes two or more
sounds to be heard simultaneously. When invoked from
COMBINATION mode, the Quick Layer function lets you
layer a Program with the selected Combination.
All of the Quick Layer controls are non-destructive and
reflected immediately when playing on the keyboard. You
can experiment with different settings, and fine-tune until
you find the perfect sound. Once you’re happy with the
results, you can save the layer as a new Combination.
Limitations of Quick Layer/Split in
COMBINATION mode
In PROGRAM mode, Quick Layer and Quick Split always
create a Combination with three Timbres (Main, Layer/Split,
and Drum Track), and the use of ARP is limited to two
modules, A and B. This means that there will always be a
sufficient number of Timbres and
ARP modules
to preserve
the original sounds.
When using Quick Layer/Split in COMBINATION mode,
however, these resources may be more limited. This
normally won’t be an issue, but in some cases the sound of
the Main Combination may change. Additionally, the sound
of the Layer or Split Program may change due to effects
usage, and subtle aspects of keyboard
Slopes
in the Main
Combination may change. These factors are described in
detail below.
Timbres
The Split or Layer Program is automatically placed in an
unused Timbre. If there are additional unused Timbres, they
will be muted. If all Timbres are already in use by the Main
Combination, the selected Program is put into Timbre 16,
replacing whatever was there previously. If this occurs, a
caution icon will appear (see “Caution messages,” below),
and the Main Combination may not sound exactly the same.
Effects
As long as there are enough insert effect (IFX) slots, the
selected Program’s insert effects (IFX) are copied into the
Combination, and the Program is routed to them. If there are
not enough available IFX slots, the Program’s effects won’t
be copied, and a caution icon will appear (see “Caution
messages,” below).
The Combination will continue to use its previously
assigned Master and Total Effects (MFX and TFX). The
Send 1/2 levels of the Layer Program are copied into the
Timbre, but the MFX and TFX themselves are not. This
means that the layer Program may not sound exactly the
same as it would in PROGRAM mode.
Split Point and keyboard slopes
Combinations support keyboard slopes, in which sounds
gradually fade in or out over a range of notes.
If the
Split Point
overlaps with existing keyboard slopes
within the Main Combination, the affected Timbres’
Top
Slope
and
Bottom Slope
values are adjusted to optimal
values as much as possible.
Split Point and ARP - Timbre Zone Bypass
If the Main Combination’s
Use ARP
check-box is enabled,
Quick Split attempts to maintain the original ARP’s effect
over the Split Point. The affected
ARP Modules
’ Timbre
Zone Bypass parameters are set to optimal values as much as
possible; however, the main Combination may not sound
exactly the same as it did originally.
Caution messages
If there are insufficient free IFX slots, Arpeggiators, and/or
Timbres to completely merge the two sounds, an
exclamation point icon will appear:
