4.12.9 Example for Associating a VRRP Backup Group with a Route
In this example, a VRRP backup group is configured to track the uplink route connected to a
network. If the route is withdrawn or becomes inactive, the RM module notifies the VRRP
backup group of the change. After receiving the notification, the VRRP backup group performs
a master/backup switchover.
Networking Requirements
NOTE
POS interfaces cannot be configured on the X1 and X2 models of the NE80E/40E.
To improve link reliability, two user gateways are connected to a network along two links, and
VRRP is configured to determine the active and standby states for the two links.
If the active link fails and causes the reachable route to the network to change, users cannot
detect the change and uses the route to transmit traffic, causing service data traffic loss. To
prevent traffic loss, a VRRP backup group can be associated with the route. If the route is
withdrawn or becomes inactive, the RM module notifies the VRRP backup group of the change.
After receiving the notification, the VRRP backup group performs a master/backup VRRP
switchover.
On the network shown in
, Router A and Router B are two gateways and they form
a VRRP backup group working in master/backup mode. Router A, the master, is associated with
a route to Router C's interface connected to the network. If the interface goes Down, the RM
module instructs the VRRP module to perform a master/backup VRRP switchover. After the
interface goes Up, traffic switches back to the previous master device.
