10.3 Enabling Interface-based Bit Error Detection
Interface-based bit error detection reports bit error events and triggers protection switching.
Context
On a common interface, interface-based bit error detection is as follows:
l
Bit error detection only. When the interface detects a bit error, the interface reports a bit
error event, which must be processed manually.
l
Bit error detection and protection switching. The switching type can be:
–
Trigger-section: applies to the scenarios where Label Distribution Protocol (LDP) label
switched paths (LSPs) are used. Because each LDP LSP carries multiple services, you
cannot implement refined control over the services by switching a specified LDP LSP.
To deploy bit-error-triggered LDP LSP switching, configure bit error detection on the
interfaces along the desired LDP LSP and configure the switching type as trigger-
section. If any interface along the LDP LSP detects a bit error event, the interface triggers
route re-convergence, which in turn triggers the LDP LSP to switch to another LSP. To
accelerate link fault detection to trigger link protection, deploy BFD on all interfaces
along a tunnel.
–
Trigger-LSP: applies to the scenarios where Resource Reservation Protocol-Traffic
Engineering (RSVP-TE) tunnels are used. TE tunnels/pseudo wires (PWs) can carry
different services, but the TE tunnels/PWs may travel along the same physical
interfaces. Because the services react differently to the bit error rate, you cannot allow
an interface to trigger the switchover of all TE tunnels/PWs when the interface detects
