Replacing Fans
The ProLiant 6000 supports redundant I/O fans (Fan 1 and 2), one internal
processor fan assembly (Fan 3), and a redundant hot-plug external processor
fan assembly (Fan 4).
Replacing the I/O Fans (Fans 1 and 2)
CAUTION:
If only one fan is installed, never remove the I/O fan
while the server is powered up. If both fans are installed, never
remove both fans while the server is powered up. Overheating
and damage to hardware could result. If the appropriate Compaq
software drivers are installed, the operating system software will
initiate a power shutdown in the event of overheating.
CAUTION:
If only one I/O fan is installed, always install the
replacement fan in the Fan 1 slot to ensure proper airflow to the
I/O board and expansion boards.

If replacing a fan in a single-fan system, power down the server.
