Installing Hardware Options
For use with Pentium II Xeon and Pentium III Xeon processor-based servers only

To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot
surfaces, allow the internal system components to cool before
touching them.

Attach the IDE signal cable and one of the two media power cables to
the CD-ROM drive.
7.
Replace the right side access panel.
8.
Close and lock the front bezels.
9.
Reconnect the power cord(s) and turn on the server. See Chapter 2,
“Server Installation and Start Up.”
10.
To remove an IDE CD-ROM drive, reverse steps 1 through 9.
External Storage Devices
Optional mass storage devices can be connected to the ProLiant 6000 by:
■
Using the external Very High Density EXT SCSI connector located at
the rear of the chassis above Slot 1
■
Installing a PCI expansion board with an external connector
■
Connecting a PCI expansion board internal SCSI connector to one of the
system’s SCSI knockouts
For information on attaching to PCI expansion boards refer to the Compaq
ProLiant 7000 and 6000 SCSI Cabling Guide.
To install an external storage device, Refer to the installation documentation
that came with the external storage device. The following illustration provides
only an overview of this installation.
1.
If the server is on, place it in Standby mode and disconnect the power
cord(s). See Chapter 2, “Server Installation.”
2.
If the external storage device is on, disconnect the power.
3.
Connect one end of the SCSI cable to the external Very High Density
connector on the rear panel of the server above Slot 1.
