2.3 Service Life − Calculate
Use the formula below to calculate the wear rate of a piston ring:
WR =
(D1 − D2) x 1000
T2 − T1
Where:
D WR = Wear rate (mm/1000 hrs)
D T2 = Hours (hrs)
D
T1 = First recorded operation hours (hrs)
D D2 = Second recorded thickness of the chrome-ceramic layer (mm)
D D1 = First recorded thickness of the chrome-ceramic layer (mm).
See Table 1 for examples of wear rate results.
