5. Grind
1) If the seating faces of the housing and the valve spindle have minimum damage, do
as follows:
a) Manually grind the seat faces of the housing (2,
Fig. 1 ) and the valve
spindle (4).
b) Make sure that you keep the radius to the value shown.
2) If the seating faces of the housing (2) and the valve spindle (4) have more than
minimum damage, do as follows:
a) Use a machine tool to grind the seating face of the housing (2) and valve
spindle (4).
b) Manually grind the seating faces of the housing (2) and the valve spindle (4) to
get a good finish.
c) Make sure that you keep the radius to the value shown.
6. Assemble
1) Clean all parts of the starting air valve.
2) Put a small quantity of oil on all the parts.
3) Put a small quantity of oil on the new O
− rings (15, 16, 16a) and the piston rings (12,
12a).
4) Put the two new O − rings (16, 16a) in the housing.
5) Put the new piston rings (12, 12a) on the piston (5).
6) Put the valve spindle (4) into the housing (2).
7) Put the compression spring (6) into the housing (2).
8) Put the piston (5) in position on the valve spindle (4).

Note: Do not get Molykote paste G on the thread of the valve spindle (4) where the
insert of the self − locking nut (10) will go.
10) Apply MOLYKOTE paste G to the thread of valve spindle (4).
11) Torque the self-locking nut with 70 Nm.
12) Tap the top of the valve spindle (4) with a hammer. The valve spindle must spring
back to its initial position.
13) Put a small quantity of oil on the new O − rings (15).
14) Attach the new O − rings (15) on the pipe (14).
15) Attach the cover (3) and 3/2-way solenoid valve (13).
16) Tighten the two M8 Allen screws (9).
