(7) Coiled Cable
(a) Inspect cable and connectors for salt contamination and or corrosion.
(b) Clean away salt and remove any corrosion. Replace cable if necessary.
(8) CIU
(a) Inspect surfaces, bonding point and connectors for salt contamination and/or corrosion.
(b) Clean away salt and remove any corrosion.
M. Icing Conditions
(1) After storing in icing conditions or flying in icing conditions.
(a) Apply power.
(b) Set searchlight in a horizontal position.
(c) Turn lamp ON.
(d) After 2 to 3 minutes of operation, carry out a full function test in accordance with
CAUTION:
BEFORE TURNING SYSTEM POWER OFF AND AFTER TURNING OFF
THE LAMP, ALLOW 2 MINUTES COOLING TIME.
(e) If function test is satisfactory, STOW the searchlight and turn OFF power.
N. Humid Environments
(1) If the searchlight is not being used for long periods of time (in excess of one week), remove the
searchlight from the aircraft and store in a low humidity environment or as explained in
Chapter 8 (Storage).
(2) Alternatively, operate the searchlight with the lamp ON weekly for a minimum of 10 minutes.
CAUTION:
BEFORE TURNING SYSTEM POWER OFF AND AFTER TURNING OFF THE
LAMP, ALLOW 2 MINUTES COOLING TIME.
O. Flight in Thunderstorms
(1) Check condition of laser and operate to ensure correct function.
(2) Inspect gimbal for structural damage in accordance with Chapter 12, G.
(3) Inspect the Searchlight lamp assembly for structural damage including the front protection window
in accordance with Chapter G, (2).
P. Hard Landings or Other Incidents
(1) This applies to the searchlight only
(a) Check the dovetail mounting block for signs of cracking or deformation.
(b) Check the searchlight dovetail assembly for cracks, deformation or loose/deformed bolts in
accordance with Chapter G, (7).
(c) Perform azimuth backlash checks in accordance with Chapter 12, E.
(d) Perform elevation backlash checks in accordance with Chapter 12, F.
