Upgrading Office PhoneMail from Two to Four Ports
The standard Office PhoneMail unit comes with two ports, one language, and enough memory
to store up to approximately 180 minutes of voice messages. You can upgrade this unit to four
ports by purchasing the optional port upgrade card. Upgrading the unit to four ports automati-
cally increases the system’s message storage capacity by 240 minutes for a total system mes-
sage storage capacity of 420 minutes.
The installation or removal of port expansion cards is subject to the following rules:
1.
Port expansion cards can be re-used across multiple systems.
2.
Port expansion cards can be installed and will properly operate in any Office PhoneMail
unit that has not previously had a port, mailbox, or memory expansion.
3.
If a port expansion card is installed and then later removed from a system, the system’s
application software will not run until the
same expansion is re-installed or the system is
re-initialized.
4.
If a port expansion card is installed and then removed, and a different expansion card is
then installed, the system’s application software will not run until the system is re-initialized
(see Rule 3 warning, above).
Note that when the system must be re-initialized for proper operation, the LED status indicator
will blink in the Cadence 3 pattern described in Appendix E, “Status Indicator Cadences.” This
cadence indicates that the software is in a “waiting to re-initialize” state. A system in this state
will remain in this state until the Software Load/Diagnostic button is pushed, which will cause
the system to be re-initialized automatically.
Caution
The optional port upgrade card looks very much like a standard PCMCIA card — but
it does not conform electrically to PCMCIA standards. Inserting Office PhoneMail
cards into PCMCIA connectors other than Office PhoneMail, or standard PCMCIA
cards into Office PhoneMail connectors may damage the cards or the system.
Caution
If the system has been previously expanded, Rules 3 and 4 must be observed for
proper system installation.
Caution
Once a system has been re-initialized, its entire configuration database is returned
to the default values, and recorded messages and greetings are erased. Prompts
are not erased. Re-initializing a system also erases the effects of any previous ex-
pansions, so that a re-initialized system will have the same configuration of a new
standard 2-port unit.
