Expanding Your System
If you wish to increase Office PhoneMail message storage capacity or to add features to your
system, a variety of expansion cards are available for purchase.
This chapter explains how to:

Shut down the system in order to perform a system upgrade.
●
Use the LED status indicator and Software Load/Diagnostic button.
●
Upgrade Office PhoneMail from two to four ports.
●
Enable special fax features.
●
Upgrade Office PhoneMail from one to two languages.

Shutting Down the System for Upgrading
Upgrades to your Office PhoneMail system are performed by installing one of several types of
upgrade cards.
The Office PhoneMail system shutdown option immediately disables all idle voice mail ports
and gives busy ports three minutes to finish before terminating all calls and disabling those
ports from service. The system then calculates and reports verbally the available storage for
reloading language prompts and finally prompts you to cancel or proceed with the shutdown.
During system shutdown, software loading, and the turning on process, the Office PhoneMail
unit uses LED cadences to indicate system status. For a complete list of these cadences and
an explanation of their meanings, see Appendix E, “Status Indicator Cadences”.

To perform a system shutdown:
1.
Access the system administration menu (see Section 6.1, “Accessing the System Ad-
ministration Menu for the First Time”, on page 6-1).
2.
Elect to perform an Installation Option by pressing
.
Office PhoneMail will prompt you for the Installation password.
3.
At the system prompt, enter the Installation password:
(INSTALL).
WARNING
Before you install any upgrade card, you must shut down the system using the sys-
tem shutdown option.
