Configuration Changes
VU-ACD™/100 Maintenance Guide – Host/DOS
5.5
ACD MIS Devices
A VU-ACD/100 system configuration may be readily expanded by adding peripheral devices such as
remote terminals, printers, modems and external displays. System reconfiguration is a multistage process
that requires:
•
Assigning a host datacomm port for the device
•
Establishing a datacomm connection (serial or LAN) between the host and the device
•
Configuring the device in standalone mode
•
Configuring the device via VU-ACD/100 Device Configuration screen
•
Assigning user device permissions
•
Testing device operation with the VU-ACD/100 application
This subsection provides guidelines and procedures for reconfiguring ACD MIS devices to match the
growth patterns of the Call Center.
5.5.1
Port Assignment
Except for the system printer, local printers and external displays attached to remote terminals, all peri-
pheral devices connect to the VU-ACD/100 host via serial or LAN datacomm ports. Before a device can
be added to the ACD MIS, an available serial port or LAN Service Number must be designated as the
device interface.
Multiport serial cards (DigiBoards) expand the port capacity of the host in 8-port and 16-port increments.
At least one 8-port DigiBoard must be installed in the host. If no serial port is available, another Digi-
Board must be added to the host configuration. The following guidelines apply when adding another
DigiBoard to the host:
❏
A physical slot must be available on the host motherboard to accommodate the new
DigiBoard host card.
– or –
❏
RS-422 cable lengths and/or concentrator limits will not be exceeded when a C/CON-16
Concentrator is added to a DigiBoard C/X Cluster Controller System.
❏
If a remote terminal will be added, verify that the current RAM capacity of the host will
support another remote terminal. (Base RAM plus 0.5 MB per remote terminal). Increase
RAM before proceeding to add the remote terminal.
❏
Install the DigiBoard and load the MenuPort Interface software using the VU-ACD/100
Maintenance Menu (refer to Section 3 of the VU-ACD/100 Host Installation Guide and
Section 2.6.4 of this guide).
