Bipolar violations

The following fields appear in the BPV (bipolar violations) category of 
the DS3 test results screens.

Field

Description

BPV Errors

Number of bipolar violations detected since the begin-
ning of the test. Intentional B8ZS code violations are 
excluded.

BPV Err 

Rate

Ratio of bipolar violations to received bits since initially 
acquiring the signal.

Average BPV 

Err Rate

Ratio of bipolar violations to the total number of 
received bits since the beginning of the test.

BPV Err Sec

Number of seconds during which one or more pattern 
bit errors occurred since initial pattern synchroniza-
tion.

BPV % EFS

Ratio of error-free seconds, expressed as a percent-
age, during which no BPVs were detected to the total 
number of seconds since the beginning of the test.

BPV Thr Err 

Sec

Number of seconds during which the bipolar violation 
rate exceeded or equaled the defined threshold. To
