5.8 Install the shaft guard - if provided
WARNING:
•
Running a pump without safety devices exposes operators to risk of serious personal in-
jury or death. Never operate a unit unless appropriate safety devices (guards, etc.) are
properly installed.
•
Failure to disconnect and lock out driver power may result in serious physical injury or
death. Always disconnect and lock out power to the driver before performing any installa-
tion or maintenance tasks.
•
Electrical connections must be made by certified electricians in compliance with all
international, national, state, and local rules.
•
Refer to driver/coupling/gear manufacturer's installation and operation manuals
(IOM) for specific instructions and recommendations.
Exposed rotating shaft between pump seal and bearing frame. Avoid contact and/or install proper guard-
ing. If guarding is not provided with the pump, contact Goulds for price and availability of proper guard-
ing.
5.9 Pump priming
5.9.1 Prime the pump with the suction supply above the pump
1.
Slowly open the suction isolation valve.
2.
Open the air vents on the suction and discharge piping until the pumped fluid flows out.
3.
Close the air vents.

5.9.2 Prime the pump with the suction supply below the pump
Use a foot valve and an outside source of liquid in order to prime the pump. The liquid can come from
one of these sources:
•
A priming pump
•
A pressurized discharge line
•
Another outside supply
